Biography
Tomoko Matsuo is an Associate Professor and Smead Faculty Fellow in the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences.Ìý
Her research interests span atmospheric and space sciences, geophysical fluid and gas dynamics, and applied statistics (including inverse methods, data assimilation, and machine learning/artificial intelligence).Ìý
She is a member of the Department’s Remote Sensing, Earth and Space Sciences Focus Area and the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research, serves as an Affiliate Faculty member in the Department of Applied Mathematics, and leads the Geospace Data Science Laboratory.Ìý
Her work has advanced the understanding and prediction of near-Earth space environments through interdisciplinary research integrating atmospheric and space sciences, geophysical fluid dynamics, applied statistics, and inverse modeling of remote sensing observations, while supporting the development of next-generation STEM researchers through teaching, mentoring, and educational outreach.
