Food Allergies

We are committed to providing safe and positive dining experiences for all students, including those with food allergies and dietary restrictions. If you have questions about how to dine with dietary restrictions in our campus dining halls, feel free to reach out to Lisa Whalen, RDN.

Here’s how we support your needs:

A9 allergen labeling: All campus dining locations use the A9 labeling system to clearly indicate which of the top nine allergens, as well as gluten, are present in each dish. This helps students make informed choices at every meal. Learn how to read an A9 label. (will link to the A9 page once it's built)

Nutrislice menu filtering: Our online menu platform, , allows you to filter menu items by allergen, so you can plan your meals with confidence.

Staff training and food preparation: Our dining staff undergo comprehensive training to ensure safe food handling and preparation.

  • AllerTrain™ certification equips staff with knowledge about food allergies, cross-contact prevention and emergency response.
  • A9 Identified Allergen Training ensures staff are familiar with our labeling system and best practices for allergen safety.
  • All staff are State Food Safety certified and trained.

If you ever feel uncertain about food on the serving line, our staff are happy to pull fresh items directly from warmers or coolers to minimize risk.

Allergy-friendly dining options: Libby Dining is completely free of peanuts, tree nuts, wheat and gluten. All dining locations offer a variety of allergy-friendly options and follow strict protocols to reduce cross-contact.

Halal accommodations

The Persian Station at the C4C Dining Center offers a diverse selection of Halal-certified dishes. All items are carefully prepared to meet Halal standards, and any food containing pork or alcohol is clearly marked on A9 allergen labels to help you make informed choices. Additionally, Halal meats are specified in the ingredient lists available through , making it easy to identify suitable options before you dine.

Vegetarian, Vegan and Plant-Based Options

At our dining locations, we make it easy to put plants first. You can use the menus and the vegetarian and vegan filter functions in to plan your meals. Vegan and vegetarian options rotate daily on a three-week cycle, and you may need to visit two stations at dining centers to build a full meal. Look for the “V” on food labels—every station is required to label all their items with “V” if the item is vegan and "LO" if the item is vegetarian.

You can also stock up on vegan and vegetarian snacks from grab-and-go spots like CU on the Run, Libby Dining and the Alley @ Farrand.
