Jonathan Marenus blends the worlds of music, law and innovation. He earned a Bachelor of Music in music business with a minor in law and society from New York University and a JD with a concentration in intellectual property from Cardozo School of Law. Jonathan has worked for independent and major record labels, managed his own law practice, served as General Counsel for a telemedicine startup and contributed to global brand operations at The Estée Lauder Companies.

Today, Jonathan helps turn ideas into impact as a licensing analyst with Venture Partners at the University of Colorado. In this role, he manages the university’s software portfolio and copyrights, supports intellectual property strategy and facilitates licensing agreements that bring groundbreaking technologies to market. His work combines legal expertise and innovation to empower researchers and entrepreneurs to translate discoveries into real-world solutions.

Beyond his professional role, Jonathan is deeply committed to community leadership. He serves as a board member and former board chair of Project VOYCE, a Denver-based nonprofit dedicated to amplifying youth voices and advancing equity through leadership development. Jonathan’s passion for empowering others, whether innovators or young leaders, reflects his belief in the transformative power of ideas.

When he’s not working, Jonathan enjoys playing guitar and creating music, continuing to explore the artistic side that first inspired his career.
