The Synthesis Paper is the first stage of the two-stageÌýcomprehensive exam and should be submitted by the end of the student's sixth semester of study. The goal of the Synthesis Paper is to demonstrate the student's ability to engage critically and independently with a focused topic or problem that contributes to scholarly conversations in the student's chosen subarea of linguistics.Ìý
