To receive the MA degree, students who do notÌýwrite a thesis must pass a four-hour written comprehensive examination covering subject areas corresponding to the five required MA courses: phonetics, phonology, morphology/syntax, semantics/pragmatics and diachronic linguistics.Ìý

In cases where the committee requests additional evidence of the student's understanding of specific subject areas, the form should be submitted twice.Ìý
