4.2.26 "The Race Makers"

"The Race Makers: from Louis XIV to Thomas Jefferson" - an evening with Andy Curran
Thursday, April 2nd
5:15 - 6:30 pm
CGBIS Room (Norlin Library M549)
Andrew Curran—writer and Enlightenment specialist—will be speaking about this new book, a group biography that chronicles the history of race from Louis XIV toÌýThomas Jefferson. Rather than treating race as an abstract idea, Curran willÌýexplain how race took form through personal choices, ambition, fear, and profit.ÌýDuring the talk, he will also reflect on the craft behind this biographical approach, and how telling large, structural histories through individual lives can help us better understand the past.ÌýLight dinner will be provided.
