Major Daniel Vancil III joined the Golden Buffalo Battalion in July 2024 as the Colorado Army National Guard - Assistant Professor of Military Science. He commissioned out of the University of Colorado’s Golden Buffalo Battalion into the Colorado Army National Guard in 2009 as a Transportation Officer, later served as an Army Aviation Officer and UH?60 Blackhawk pilot in 2012, and in 2018 to become an Army Space Operation Officer. Major Vancil's overseas experience include deploying with a Aeromedical Evacuation Unit to Afghanistan in 2014, Aide?de?Camp to the Commander of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2019, and deployments to U.S. Central Command as a Field Artillery Brigade Space Operations Officer in 2021 and as an Army Space Support Team Leader in 2023-2024. Major Vancil's state missions have included support for multiple wildfires, rescue missions, and COVID response. As a National Guardsman, Major Vancil has held civilian positions when not ordered to duty, most recently as the Ground Test Branch Chief for Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense. He is currently completing a Master of Science in Space Studies and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer Course through distance learning. Major Vancil's awards include the two Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, Air Force Air and Space Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, two Humanitarian Service Medals, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, the Basic Aviator Badge and Master Space Badge, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation, among others.
