First-Generation Student Events

First-generation student events are about building community, exploring your identity and helping you feel connected at CU Boulder. Whether you’re just getting started or getting ready to graduate, there are opportunities throughout the year to meet people, learn from others and celebrate your journey.Ìý

One of the ways we do this is through Cultural Connections, a collaborative event series hosted by the First-Generation Programs team in partnership with the Intercultural Engagement team. These events create welcoming spaces to explore culture, identity and community while building meaningful connections and a sense of belonging.Ìý

Throughout the year, you’ll also find a variety of events designed to support you at different points in your college experience.Ìý

At the beginning of the year, First-Generation Student Orientation offers New Buffs a chance to connect with other first-generation students and learn about campus resources. It’s a great way to start building your community early.

You’ll also find opportunities to build relationships and learn from others. At Breakfast with Faculty, Staff and Students, you can connect with first-generation faculty, staff and peers in a relaxed setting while expanding your network and sharing experiences.

If you’re looking for ways to give back, First-Generation Day of Service brings students together to volunteer in the local community alongside partners from Service Learning & Impact in Community Engagement (SLICE).

As you think about your future, Alumni Networking Night and Panel connects you with first-generation professionals from a range of industries. You’ll hear their stories, gain insights into the job search and have time for meaningful conversations about internships, careers and next steps.

Some events are designed to help you feel more comfortable getting involved. Explore and Connect gatherings offer a smaller, welcoming space to meet others before heading to larger campus events together.

Toward the end of your time at CU Boulder, the First-Generation Graduation Celebration honors your accomplishments with a special ceremony, reception and community celebration. Graduates receive a first-generation stole as a symbol of their achievements.Ìý

You can learn more about stole registration and pickup through Cultural and Affinity Commencement Celebrations.Ìý
